about

Wrote the first verses for this one in Boise, ID in Sean Hatton's home studio and actually called up Cameron McGill to see if he wanted to write a verse for it and "co-write" in that way, but it didn't work out, so about a year later I dug the song up and wrote the final verse. It's a homage to some of my songwriting heroes and I'm proud of the way this one turned out.

lyrics

My Bible

When you C feel it in your gut, who you are and what you want
And then F dynamically pursue it
C Don’t back down, and don’t give up
Then you’re F gonna mystify a lot of folks

That’s what G Dylan Am said in a F book that I once G read
It was G written in the Am pages of his novel F G
And I G know he’s just a Am man, but he’s F doing all he G can
So I’m G pulling off his Am pages for my F bible G

I’m running down a dream that never would come to me
Said a blond haired kid named Petty
And he took aim and he staked his claim
With an album full of hits, Damn The Torpedos

He had big ideas and formulas that worked
From hit song to the next town, ghost to bayou
Now he’s filling up the stands in arenas where he lands
and I’m pulling off his pages for my bible

I could C read it Dm every Am night this G book of F songs
and C just like Dm Jesus Am Christ your G words will F get passed G along
They’re gonna F get passed G along... solo!

I’m rolling up my sleeves and tucking in my jeans
Springsteen took that look strait to the cover
of Rolling Stone, they chewed his bone
And the proof was on the streets in Pennsylvania
It was up and down the boardwalk of his town
This guy and his guitar hailed as a savior
Just a boss and all his plans with or without a five piece band
He could give em hell this soldier and his army
Praying loud and cursing when he needed
Writing songs that made other people famous
Putting pen to paper like this bible
