Wrote this one on a classical guitar actually, not a piano, but it lent itself to piano-guitar rock pretty easily. The chorus kind of took on a new life in the studio, it used to be more subdued.
lyrics
HOLDING ON
E You’re 29 thinking ‘bout all of the B7 ropes
E Some you can climb some that just shatter your B7 hopes
E Pardon me dear, is it life on a string that you Am7 love?
E And is that a tear, are you dealing with loss from B7 above?
I keep on A holding on, B holding on, A holding so E tight
I keep on A holding on, B holding so E tight
I kissed her lips in the bedroom
We were unlit then a spark and a fuse to the moon
Please call my name tell me tell me what I need to hear
Silver and gold put the poetry into my ear
I keep on A holding on, B holding on, A holding so E tight
I keep on A holding on, B holding so E tight
I keep on A holding on, B holding on, A holding so E tight
I keep on A holding on, B holding so E tight
Gonna F#m reach out to you mama hold you G#m close and hold you tight
I can A hear the battle calling, won’t you B help me through the E night
B Help me through the E night F#m
All my dreams are visions of darkness and pain
I haven’t slept, day after day it’s the same
My occupied mind is in tatters from taking your calls
My knees are all scraped and my back and my bed against the wall
I keep on holding on, holding on, holding on tight
I keep on holding on, holding so tight
I keep on holding on, holding on, holding on tight
I keep on holding on, holding so tight
Gonna reach out to you mama hold me close and hold me tight
I can hear the pressure calling, won’t you help me through the night
Help me through the night
Help me through the night
